You New Favorite Winter Makeup Trends

When the mercury drops and the heavy coats come out of the closet, it’s time to revamp your winter makeup palette. We’re breaking all the rules this season: right now, dramatic shades and textures are showing up on both eyes AND lips. No need to follow the either-or rule any more!

Aveda’s 2014 Fall/Winter makeup collection, Romantic Grandeur is fully of the saturated berry hues and textures now appearing on fashionable faces. Neutrals are rich and still saturated, so that they complement the intensity of the bolder tones and won’t get washed out. The palette includes both matte textures and shimmery finishes and is perfectly on point for winter.

To get this look, try a purple-heavy crimson on the lip. (Bonus: The blue undertones make teeth look whiter!) Achieve this saturation and depth of color by layering Nourish-mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Mangosteen over Nourish-mint Smoothing Lip Color in Goji Berry.

For a multidimensional neutral, layer Allspice, Golden Cyprus, Ivory Lotus Petal Essence Single Eye Colors. It’s smoky and intriguing without being overpowering, and works great on pale winter skin.

For a different take on the same theme, try a nude but saturated lip with a bold, dark eye. For the lips, use Nourish-Mint Sheer Mineral Lip Color in Moonflower.

Create the alluringly dark eye with Petal Essence Single Eye Color in Golden Cypress and Petal Essence Eye Definer in Black Orchid (for brunettes) or Cacao (for blondes). Finish with a swipe of Aveda Mosscara.

Don’t be intimidated by intense colors, bold combinations, or new techniques! Makeup should be fun, not frustrating.
